There are four seasons in Hungary : spring, summer, autumn (Americans call autumn as “fall”) and winter. Seasons last for three months.
Spring starts in March and finishes in May.
Summer starts in June and finishes in August.
Autumn starts in September and finishes in November.
Winter starts in December and finishes in February.
Spring is my favourite season. In spring the nature is beautiful, there are colourful flowers and green trees and bushes everywhere. The nature is awakening. The weather is wonderful, not cold and not too warm. The sun often shines, there is a lovely breeze, and sometimes it rains but these rains are quick and short.
In spring people love going on trips in the mountains, or walking in the parks. Other people go on fishing or do outdoor sports. We can play ball games (tennis, badmington, basketball, football or handball) and we can finally wear T-shirts, jackets and trainers again - instead of thick jumpers, wintercoats and boots.
In summer the weather is very hot, the sun shines all the time, the temperature is high, and sometimes there are quick and short showers which cool the air only for a short time. Sometimes wild storms come, with thunder and lightning, after long hot days. People sweat a lot and we have to be careful not to faint in the heat or get sunburnt.
In summer people prefer spending time in the swimming pools, on the beach or by lakes and seas. Most people sunbathe, swim, water-ski or surf a lot. We wear light dresses, tops, T-shirts, miniskirts or shorts, and people wear swimming suits and swimming trunks near the water.
In autumn the schoolyear starts, the weather becomes rainy and cold, there are a lot of rain, cold wind and dark clouds on the grey sky. The temperature falls. The sunny days become less. The leaves turn yellow and red and brown, they fall on the ground, and the nature starts to fall asleep.
People go on trips at the weekends, they enjoy the colours of the nature and the rare warm days. We do the spring sports, go cycling or do ball games - at outdoor or indoor places. We wear shirts and jumpers, jackets or raincoats, we often need our umbrellas and wellingtons.
In winter the sun shines a little, the temperature falls deeper, sometimes it is even below zero. It is very cold. Instead of rain, snow falls most of the times. Sometimes rain falls which freeze and there will be icy roads and a lot of accidents. The trees and bushes are bare, there are no flowers.
People do winter sports like skiing, sledging, ice-skating or playing ice-hockey, - or they can do other sports in indoor sports centres. Children build snowmen or play snowball-fights. We wear thick and warm jumpers, scarfs, caps, gloves, wintercoats and boots.
