There are different means of transport if you want to travel abroad:
- car
- bus
- train
- ship
- plane
The most popular and the most used means of transport are trains and planes.
There are different kinds of trains: slow train, passenger trains, fast trains and Intercity trains. Intercity trains are the fastest because they stop at less stations but they are more expensive because we have to pay an extra fee for the seat.
Slow trains and passenger trains have more stops and sometimes they need double the time to reach their destination. For exaple it takes less than two hours to get from Miskolc to Budapest by Intercity, but it takes three or four hours to take the same amount of distance by a slow train or passenger train.
You can buy your tickets at the railway stations, the MÁV offices and at the travel agencies. It can be a single ticket or a return ticket. A return ticket is worth more because you don't have to worry about your journey back and it costs less than a single ticket. When you want to get home from Budapest, and you forgot to buy your ticket home in advance, there are always long queues at the cash desks at the railway stations.
I like travelling by train and I always travel by Intercity. It is expensive, but it is very fast and clean, and it is more comfortable than passenger trains.
Travelling by plane is the most expensive, but this is the most comfortable and the fastest means of transport. Some people say it is the most dangerous way of travelling, while others say that there are more accidents happening on the roads. I have never flown and to be honest, I am afraid of flying.
You can buy your plane ticket at the travel agencies or MALÉV agencies, or by using the internet and ordering your ticket at a foreign airlines.
If you want to travel along a river or between the two shores of a lake or between the two coasts of a sea, you can travel by ships or by ferries (these also carry cars and bicycles).
